Our American Generation is a youth run think tank that facilitates research and offers policy proposals concerning social justice issues crucial to the future of our country.

OAG helps you(th) get serious and get organized about social justice issues you care about. We strive to engage youth in critical discourse about all social justice issues, in hopes to create a strong and diverse community of young Americans - a community that will not be reluctant to take on our nation's most challenging issues.

OAG was formally founded as a registered student organization at the University of Washington in January 2009 and incorporated as a non profit in the state of Washington in October of 2009. In March of 2011 OAG was recognized as a 501c(3) Non Profit organization. Today OAG facilitates research by youth in the Seattle metropolitan area, and accepts blog articles from youth anywhere!

What the heck does OAG do???

1. Facilitates research and advocacy projects on social justice topics that you(th) care about. All young people (roughly 13-30) may apply to research with OAG about any topic of their choice. If your project is approved by our Youth Advisory Board, they will recieve tools, funds, personal assistance, and ultimately will be published in zine format. Apply to research here.

2. Encourages conversation and dialogue about how current events relate to social justice, via our blog, "The Takeover." Any young person may write for The Takeover - no application necessary. Simply visit The Takeover and signup on the right side of the page.  Click here to visit the Takeover now. Young folks that blog for us at least once per week for three months are eligible for a fellowship position.

3. Creates an on the ground community through social gatherings and educational events. This includes our monthly social justice mixer, The OAG Thang, which takes place in Seattle every last Thursday. Click here for more details on our events.

Through all of these actions, we hope to create a community of youth that can identify the intersections between all social justice issues, and can begin to identify social injustices within their own communities. Finally, we strive to empower this community to understand these issues in detail, and to formulate solutions for our generation.

OAG's Founding Statement

"It shall be the purpose of this organization to engage the American youth in critical social commentary and thorough research. Our young American generation must coalesce and identify the reform necessary to ensure a just and strong American future. We, the members of Our American Generation, believe it is an imperative to hear the views of youth because of our unique experience and perspective. Our generation has inherited war, economic crisis, and environmental devastation.  We have been raised in a nation that is still plagued by prejudice and institutionalized discrimination. We believe the youth must come together and take responsibility for America's future. Through research and dialogue we can envision a just American future that is worthy of pride and international respect. Our American Generation shall dictate new priorities for a new generation."
